Young Tech Innovator Program Overview

Introduction

The Young Tech Innovator Program aims to transform technology education for middle and high school students across Colorado. Our goal is to address critical gaps in STEM education, foster economic empowerment, and promote equity for underserved communities.


Background

Samuel Ogah, the program’s founder, is a Cloud, AI, and Security Engineer with over a decade of experience in technology. Over the past four years, Samuel has trained and tutored over 100 students in various tech fields, with more than 60% securing full-time positions in the industry. This success in workforce training inspired the creation of the Young Tech Innovator Program to extend these opportunities to younger students.

  1. Curriculum Gaps: Existing STEM programs often lack comprehensive, hands-on curricula in advanced technology areas.

  2. Resource Shortages: Many schools, particularly in underserved areas, lack the materials needed for effective learning.

  3. Technological Advancement: Rapid tech developments require immediate curriculum updates to keep students competitive.

Skill Development: Provides students with crucial tech skills, preparing them for high-demand careers.


Equity and Inclusion: Focuses on immigrant, minority, and underserved students, as well as all students with educational gaps, ensuring equal access to tech education.

Program Details

  1. Curriculum Review and Improvement:

    • Subjects Covered: AI Fundamentals, Quantum Computing, Cybersecurity, Mobile App Development, and Entrepreneurship.

    • Hands-On Materials: Custom-designed materials to support effective learning.

    • Partnerships: Collaborations with Denver Museum of Nature & Science, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, My Spark, Denver Public Schools (DPS), Alpine Bank, and PCs for People.

  2. Pilot Programs:

    • Summer Camps: Successful pilot involving 60 students, with significant interest from educators and technology leaders.

    • After-School Programs: Implementation in schools with positive feedback and growing interest in offering the program as an elective.

  3. Success Stories:

    • David (8th Grade): Developed an app for neighborhood clean-ups.

    • Timothy (7th Grade): Created a scheduling AI models.

    • Choupi (7th Grade): Designed a homework management app.

    • Solomon (4th Grade): Created a tool for tracking personal goals.

    • Sorrele (10th Grade): Developed a platform for connecting students with internships.
